The National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced today that researchers from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) are among the recipients of a multi-million dollar grant that focuses on the use of genomics to improve risk assessment for diverse populations and integrate the findings into clinical care.

A CHOP allergy specialist recently presented on how to choose the right treatment for eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) at the EAACI Annual Congress 2020. The international conference for health professionals was held digitally this year on June 6-8 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, fewer children than usual have visited emergency rooms. But doctors across the country say they have seen a growing number of children who suffered broken bones on bikes and trampolines, accidental poisonings, and other severe injuries during the widespread lockdowns. In fact, recent research conducted by experts at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) published in the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics suggests a need for increased awareness of at-home safety measures.

The effects of COVID-19 have dramatically changed the way we live, learn and work. While many things have come to a standstill, Wistar research has never stopped and even new educational projects have managed to come to fruition. One shining addition to the Institute this summer is the newly constructed, state-of-the-art educational biomedical training suite.
Despite an unprecedented volume of research, there are still many unanswered questions on COVID-19, especially regarding the extremely varied clinical course the disease takes, ranging from asymptomatic to severe, even fatal. The evidence collected so far points to the so called “cytokine storm” as a major factor determining the final outcome.
The Wistar Institute, a biomedical research leader in cancer, immunology and infectious diseases, and Allevi, Inc. a Philadelphia based startup pioneering innovative 3D biofabrication technologies, announce a collaboration to use 3D bioprinting to help combat COVID-19.
Jefferson Health has named Brian Sweeney as president and chief operating officer of its New Jersey division. Sweeney, a 23-year Jefferson Health veteran, began his career as a registered nurse. He had been serving as interim president since early March when he took over the job previously held Joseph D. Devine.
Children's Hospital of Philadelphia once again grabbed the No. 2 spot on U.S. News and World Report's annual ranking of the country's best pediatric medical centers.
Young patients with no risk factors for stroke may have an increased risk if they have contracted COVID-19, whether or not they are showing symptoms of the disease. Surgeons at Thomas Jefferson University and collaborators analyzed patients presenting with stroke from March 20th until April 10th at their institutions. The strokes they observed were unlike what they usually see.
